by Maggie Smith
Wow! This book was so original. A memoir told in vignettes. It was beautiful, raw, emotional, lyrical, and poetic. You can definitely tell that the author, Maggie Smith, is a poet. The language is just stunning. It covers marriage, divorce, parenting, writing, the pursuit of a creative life, spousal/gender roles in a relationship, grief, healing, and survival. It definitely feels like you’re reading snapshots of her journal. A beautiful study of the interiority of loss and reframing one’s sense of self.
