This book is hard to review. Not because it isn’t great. I needed time to process it after I was finished reading. It was… a lot! Amazing, raw, disturbing, well written, couldn’t look away but wondered why I kept reading it, addictive, etc. I don’t want to give away too much. I would call this Women’s Fiction with elements of family drama. The premise is how a deep dark secret from the protagonist, Eleanor’s, past festers like a boil under the surface and creates ripples in her present.
It is not an easy read. There are many triggers, including rape, sexual assault, incest, explicit sex scenes, betrayal, and adultery. And yet, I couldn’t turn away. The writing is phenomenal. I was invested in the story and the characters, even though I often found them unlikeable at various times. If you like deep, emotional, dysfunctional family drama, give this one a read. But be prepared! It is not light reading.
