Wow! What a book. A fascinating, creative and gripping story that tugs at your heart strings, makes you weep, shocks you with its horrors, and yet still gives you hope that goodness and love can triumph. I love the author’s note at the end. So incredible how this story came to her. She did a lot of research to bolster it, but it basically came out of her imagination. It’s not an easy book to read due to the themes of slavery and rape. And yet it shows you how people can become family and face the odds together with strength, love, and resilience. I won’t forget these characters. They will leave a lasting impression on me. Highly recommend this one.
