by Nancy Johnson

I absolutely loved this book. I have all the feels after finishing it. Cried some tears also. The author, Nancy Johnson, is one of my writer friends. It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to watch her writing journey unfold over the last few years. She put so much into this book and it shows. I am so proud of her, happy for her, and excited for her.

This book is a stunning work of fiction that goes deep into classism and racism at the beginning of the Obama administration. It deals with a black female engineer named Ruth who goes back home to deal with some unfinished business and get to the bottom of a family secret. Back home is a small Indiana town affected by the downturn in the economy. The writing is beautiful, the story compelling, and the characters rich and complex.

All of the praise and wonderful reviews are well deserved. I hope everyone gets their hands on this book and reads it!
