I am finally finished reading this book! And I have mixed feelings. It is so unbelievably well written, researched, and organized. The storyline, character development, and wordsmithing are stellar. However, it is long! Very long.
While I can’t think of anything in particular I would’ve edited out, I can’t help thinking that some of it could’ve been edited out. It is a really long time to spend with such a dark and depressing subject matter and characters. It has a sort of nihilistic slant to it. And yet I couldn’t stop reading… I was really invested in the characters and curious to hear how it would be wrapped up in the end.
All in all, I would recommend it. But you need to know that you’re getting into a long commitment and the subject matter can be depressing, albiet with some lightness with regard to the overall message.
