by Alice Hoffman
I realize that I absolutely love Alice Hoffman as an author! Every book I read of hers, I adore. This one is no exception! This book is the genesis of the story that leads to her famous book, Practical Magic, which surprisingly I’ve never read. I’m going to put it on my list to read next. I love the way she weaves magical realism with romance, history, and family relationships. Her writing is exquisite, and her world building is extraordinary. I loved reading about Maria Owens and what she went through in Essex County, England, and then Essex County, Massachusetts. I don’t consider myself to be a huge reader of witchcraft fiction, and yet I find that I’m absolutely glued to her stories.
