A family drama filled with love and longing, sadness and beauty, regret and redemption. I loved the fractured structure that jumped around in time, and the multiple points of view (including an unexpected, but very welcome, appearance by the father in the last part of the book). I was also fascinated by the backdrop of the family’s Muslim religion, which was important to the story in so many ways, big and small. This family and their story will stay with me in my heart and mind. Very poignant and haunting.
